AL  HENDERSON

about the artist

Al Henderson’s work ranges from the handheld to the monumental.  His work focuses on the representation of a subject, and often the nature of representation itself.  Its strange familiarity originates from his own, variously contemporary or counter-contemporary, sense of things.

He employs both traditional and current methods of production. The approach is to tailor the work flow, chosen materials, and designs to suit the notion that originally inspired the project in the first place.

Henderson has taught sculpture at the University of Alberta, acted as a coach and advisor for public art, and modeled figures commercially. He has installed a number of public works over the years, and was invited to design artwork for a number of parks in Chengdu, which he visited in 2019.

Henderson is a 2020 recipient of the Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund. The EATF is a joint project of the Edmonton Arts Council and Edmonton Community Foundation. The EATF invests in the creative community by alleviating living and working expenses, allowing exceptional local artists to devote time to their artistic career.
